I've been considering uploading some photos here. Nothing fancy, i just take pictures of some random stuff (mostly my room mates cats) and some of them come out lookin' neat.

Regarding Photoshop Skills

Today my friend Dianna and i challenged eachother to a duel. A photoshop duel, where we must create the Best Picture Ever using photoshop. This was my final product. If anyone would like a tutorial, i can happily provide one.



Aaaand i guess here's something for real, using more manuscript samples, plus a photo of my bed and laptop. She's a digital medium who contacts the spirit world through the internet (get it? get the pun? i found it appropriate.)

There's a part of me that would love to learn how to illuminate manuscripts. There's a bigger part of me that realizes that the art form is tedious. I suppose that's why i'm an animator.
Plus manuscripting (i don't know the actual word for it, so i made this one up) would have little to no practical application, other than artifact forgery which is good money but weighs too heavily on the soul.
In any case, this is my un-named star of my story this year. i think the manuscript samples i used are the work of the Limbourg Brothers. I just thought they looked neat.

The wierd thing about art school is instead of doodling in the margins of essays you find yourself doodling in the margins of other doodles.
The coelecanth in the corner would be my pirate flag... if i were a pirate.

Pentel makes this brush pen that's impossible to find. My friend Ed knows where to find them and got me one for Hanukkah a few years back. I lost it for about a year, then found it a few months ago. It's a pretty amazing pen. It holds India Ink (i think) and has synthetic bristles that won't fray over time. It's fun to play around with and i need to learn how to use it properly.

Featured below are some attempts to remember how to draw the kanji for "fire". I have failed miserably, my appologies to the culture.

SHAZAM!

It occurs to me that something known as Hollow-Ween. I never really know what to be for halloween these days. Back in the day it was easy... Oh, that cute guy in class likes Star Wars? I'm totally going to dress up as Princess Leia! I actually tried it once, it didn't work. My awkward shyness won out in the end. My hair was long enough to make those buns, though! No wigs for me.
Anyway, in the spirit of the season, my room mates Halloween colored cats. Squash is dresses as a Squash!

Here's the same art from my last post, edited into a photo (courtesy of Corbis.com) to play around with a visual style that i wanted to try for my film. It worked pretty well, but in the end it would be far too time consuming to do for every shot. Still, here it is for your ... enjoyment.

May be the final design for the main character of my film this year. The film itself doesn't really have much to do with hands. The main characters will have hands, but it doesn't really come up much.

Boob kittens and sketchbooks

One of our cats is a boob sitter and the other is a toe biter. The boob sitter is not really that particular (unfortunately, neither is the toe biter)... he'll sit on laps and stomaches. He's sitting on my lap at the moment. But boobs have been sat upon.

Critical studies classes can be kinda dull at calarts. I've been doing a lot of sketchbook drawing, which is good, but i didn't really have the opportunity to just sit and do it all summer. My sketchbook muscles have atrophied, but there's still some odd residual muscle-memory that's allowing me to keep doodlin'

I have no tablet or scanner

On the brink of moving yet again...

Well, i finally got my old scanner hooked up to my old, rusty trusty computer for some art posting! On an art blog! How novel!
Pullin' myself out of a drawing slump that is more like a slouch that slouched it's way out of the chair, onto the floor and into a road-side ditch!
Getting back to some fun basics with animals.

Wow! After months of no posting, staring at the same crappy drawings with no actual hint at real artwork, i offer you my thanks for even checking back to read this entry! Sadly, i can't provide you with any actual new art as of yet, but in the meantime you can see my film (along with the rest of the films in the 2006 Producers Show) at this fine webpage! well, it looks like i'll be in the studio late tonight trying to make significant progress on, if not complete, this latest assignment. perhaps i'll take this late-night excursion as an excuse to use the scanners that i've recently been introduced to.

or perhaps i'll just upload some cat picture i took a few weeks ago.

Today i went to the DMV and for the 4th, and hopefully final time, i was given a valid learners permit.

It's coming for me.

The other night I was sitting on my bed, typing or whatever.
When i saw it.
Out of the corner of my eye, i saw something move.
A bra had partially wiggled itself out from my underwear drawer. It sounds crazy, but i KNOW i saw it move! I'm afraid that in the dead of night it will come for me.

And that will be the end of me.

A belated update as promised!

My laptop is, for whatever damned reason, in the proverbial "shop" yet again, so updates will slow back to a crawl until i move back home for the summer.

house cleaning

Well i've got my computer back, which means that once i transfer all my art files off of the lab computers there will be posting again!
In the meantime, i deleted the last post... the scans were aweful and needed resizing anyway.

soooo... ya! within the next week... changes are a-comin'.

God, there's a leak in my room and there's too much goddamn incompetence in maintenance around here to do anything about it, it seems.
So i was too full of calarts-facilities-rage to really sleep last night. Fortunately around 4 am exhaustion beat out rage and i passed out. in any case, between getting up early to go complain to the office and the 4 1/2 hours of sleep i did manage to catch i was too tired to get much good work done today.
I did, however, spend an hour on this instead of making a film :)

Al-Gore-ythms

So at calarts we've got a class... Math as Art.
Now i dropped out of math halfway through my junior year of high school. Not that i was bad at it or didn't get it, i just couldn't stand sitting through it. Physics is applied mathematics, and i could take that, but otherwise, it's just numbers. While i've come to realise that numbers and the laws of mathematics are as fascinating as the mysteries of he universe, high school math teachers just don't take the time to show you that.
it would just be wasted on most of the high school crowd anyway.
anyhoo, this class here... after so many art classes and so many bullshit art-related classes a basic pre-calc class is kind of refreshing. i've found myself drawing in class and trying to be sneaky about it, just like old times, only now nobody really cares. i'll have my notebook laid just over my sketchbook so that i can still draw but look like i'm taking notes.
it feels really great :)
